Hey Craft Buddies. I have missed being here and sharing with you over the past couple of weeks. But I have a good reason.

If you didn’t know, my family recently moved! It was kind of a sudden thing. But sometimes, it’s the unexpected that takes you to the next level. Here’s what went down.

A Little Backstory

I grew up living in one single home. It’s the home my parents purchased in 1963 when they moved here to West Texas. (Stop trying to do the math… I wasn’t born until several years later…) It’s the only home I ever knew. It’s where I learned to shoot that 3-pointer in the backyard. It’s where my sisters and brother and I played hide-and-seek into the evening.

My oldest sister and her family lived directly across the street from us. While most people I knew grew up with lots of cousins, I grew up with nieces and nephews my age. We had the greatest time. And while my sister and her family had to move to a different home when we I was in middle school, we continued living in that same house.

Husband hustled it up! Here he and his sidekick, our oldest daughter, work to paint our master bedroom.

Fast-forward 23 years… I lived with my parents in that home until my husband and I got married and moved into our own home. When people would say that it was a nice “starter home”, I was offended. I was sure it was going to be my starter AND finishing home.

The house was small… only just over 1,000 square feet. But it had 3 bedrooms, a living room and small den, and a huge backyard. In my mind, it was plenty of space for us. And it really was.

What Changed?

Let’s jump ahead another 23 years. Now we have 3 growing children. What I was sure was our forever home felt like it was shrinking. My pre-teen really needed her own space. I initially gave up my crafting studio for her. But that wasn’t really working.

They really are happy about the new house… really… they are.

We talked about converting the garage. We thought about remodeling and adding a room or two onto the back of the house. Nothing seemed quite right. And then something really unexpected happened.

A house that my husband and his brother owned and were renting out was becoming available. After about 12 years, the tenant was buying her own home. At the same exact time, my niece was having to find another place to live because her landlord was selling the house she and her 2 children were renting.

Check out how large this room is!

Do you see where I’m going with this?

Everything worked out just right! I didn’t have to go through the stress and anxiety of listing and showing our house. We didn’t have to go through all the “fun” (not really) stuff that comes with staging a home for sell. We didn’t even have to go house hunting! It was amazing!

My oldest daughter is so excited about her new room! Dad finished the floor and she was happy to have helped with the painting.

BUT WAIT… THERE’S MORE!

The best part: the new house is practically around the corner and two streets over from our first home! Talk about an easy move! This was a blessing in so many ways.

The house we moved into is a 4-bedroom home and it is beautiful! It has a large open kitchen and dining area. The master bedroom is like a hotel suite! The living room area has a fireplace and is large enough so that we decided to divide it to include the dining room table.

That means the area that is meant to be the dining room is…. DRUMROLL PLEASE… MRS. CRAFT LADY’s CRAFT AREA! How fun is that?!!!

I cannot wait to take you all along on the journey of crafting and decorating in my new space. I’ve never been much into home decor. But this home is bringing out all kinds of craftiness and homemaker traits in me. In fact, you can the tutorial for the dried orange garland that I made for my mantle on my friend, Brandi’s blog, The Happy Door.
