Making the 100 Days of School Shirt

For those who are into sublimation, you’re going to love the PNG file. This type of printing gives you vibrant, full-color results that kids adore. Here’s a step by step of how to make your 100 Days Shirt using sublimation.

Materials and Supplies

  • 100 Days of School PNG File
  • Polyester t-shirt (white or very light gray or pink are the best colors)
  • Sublimation printer (I use a Sawgrass 500)
  • Sublimation paper
  • Heat Tape
  • Protective paper or butcher paper
  • Heat press (I use this one from HTV Ront)

The Process

Step 1: Download the 100 Days of School PNG file

Step 2: Open the file in your software and size it for your shirt (I size adult shirts at about 9″-10″ wide and children shirts between 6″ and 8″ depending on the size)

Step 3: Mirror the design and send it to print on your sublimation printer

Step 4: Place your shirt on the heat press and put a sheet of protective paper inside of the shirt between the front and back

Step 5: Use a lint roller to clean of your shirt

Step 6: Tear around the outside of the design to avoid harsh lines when pressing.

Step 7: Position the design printed side down onto the shirt and use heat tape to secure it (I like to

Step 8: Cover over the design with another sheet of protective paper to protect your press from any ink transfer

Step 9: Press the 100 Days of School design. Be sure to refer to the specifications for your heat press and/or shirt for the temperature and time. I pressed mine at 370 degrees for 35 seconds

Step 10: Lift a corner of the design to take a quick peek to see if the design transferred correctly. If not, you can press it again for a few more seconds.

You’re all done!

Remember, sublimation works best on light-colored, high-polyester fabrics for the brightest colors.

Make It a Coloring T-Shirt!

Here’s where the fun really begins. Once you have the design on a t-shirt, hand over some fabric markers to the kids and let them color it in! It’s a fantastic way to engage their creativity and make a unique piece of wearable art. For my students, I’m making the shirts in each child’s size and sending them home ahead of time for them to color. Then, we’ll all wear our fun 100 Days of School shirts to school on the same day!

Tips for a Successful Project

  • Pre-press the t-shirts on your heat press before pressing the designs to remove wrinkles and moisture from the fabric.
  • Test your settings on a scrap piece of fabric first, especially if you’re new to HTV or sublimation.
  • Encourage creativity! There’s no right or wrong way for the kids to color their shirts.

The SVG File: Perfect for HTV Beginners

If you don’t have a sublimation printer don’t worry; this project is also perfect for beginner and intermediate crafters. The SVG file I’ve included is ideal for HTV. You’ll need a cutting machine like a Cricut or Silhouette to cut out the design from HTV.

Here’s a quick rundown:

  1. Download the SVG file.
  2. Upload it to your cutting machine software.
  3. Cut the design from HTV. (Don’t forget to mirror the design)
  4. Weed the excess vinyl.
  5. Press it onto your t-shirt, and voila!
